Reclaiming Your Power after Heartbreak
Heartbreak seems like the universal point of reference in society right now. Even still, I cling to the belief that the bond connecting us all is a force so integral to all existence that even adversity and strife cannot shake it.
What could be so powerful?
The answer is love.
Love tells us to keep stretching even when it hurts to try again. Love propels us forward, in an effort to honor the freedom that is innate to every living being on this Earth.
As we usher in a new year, I am learning to fully appreciate the different seasons of life. There are periods of turmoil that threaten to cage us in sentiments of despair, ardent tsunamis that rock us to our core.
In these moments, I look to the stars. I seek the fire that fuels galaxies beyond my reach, and I channel the light that finds its way to me in the early whispers of dawn. I look at mighty oaks withstanding tornadoes and fallen leaves that fly with the wind to become something new again. It is then I remember my truth.
I am not destined to drown in the pits of sorrow that may occasionally overtake me. The pillar of hope I cling on to exists within my being– if I silence my fears and turn inwards to seek the answers to the questions that paralyze me in anxiety’s quicksand.
When the frustration threatens to overtake me fully, the life raft I cling to is love. Love tells me to stay awake, to be present. It tells me to breathe, to know that fear is no match for a heart that loves to beat, jump, and skip forward to brighter days. And for this reason, I know miracles exist.
I once felt trapped by the past–a broken heart must first realize she is free to heal. I constantly sought an escape from the painful memories of wounded souls who tried to pull me into darkness with them. But, once I aligned with the divine gift that never stops giving, I could smile and look to the light- and I could know that it always existed within me.
The light has not left you. Your darkness is temporary.
At times, you may have to wander for a long time, but it does not mean that you are lost. You can not surrender your hope when adversity strikes. If anything, turn inwards. Turn to yourself and tend to the soft terrains of your heart. Water your soils with the care that you truly deserve– and keep at it. In the darkest nights of winter, when you feel barren and exposed, turn inwards and you will find that you are only meant to ascend. The beauty of love is that it is never lost– it regenerates. Sometimes we think it is gone, but it just shows up in new ways, in new seasons, to show us that our healing has taken us to higher heights.
I love you. I want you to love yourself because love is who you are. Your entire existence is an ode to the powerful resilience embedded in love’s glow.
